Nara is conveniently connected with Kyoto and Osaka and is accessible from both cities by train within one hour. The main transportation systems are JR railways, Kintetsu railways and Nara Kotsu’s bus service.
Nara has a highly developed bus service network crisscrossing the city. There are two types of buses in Nara: front-embarking and rear-disembarking buses and front-disembarking and rear-embarking buses. For the former, passengers pay the fare in advance when they board the bus. The fare is fixed throughout the service zones. For the latter, passengers take a numbered ticket when boarding the bus, and pay the fare according to the number on their ticket when they disembark. The fare is indicated on the display panel at the front of the bus.
